Shingles vaccination coverage increases
Shingles vaccination coverage in Australians aged 65 years and over increased by 40% in the first year after the new Shingrix (recombinant protein subunit) vaccine was added to the National Immunisation Program, finds research from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance and The University of Sydney. Using Australian immunisation data, researchers found that 2.5 million doses were administered to individuals aged 65 years and over, increasing shingles coverage from 31.3% in that cohort pre-Shingrix to 44.1% in late 2024.
