Abstract
Most sexual assault victims are women; some groups are particulary vulnerable.
Key Points

    Adult female sexual assault is defined clinically as penetration of the vulva (vaginal orifice) and/or anus by a penis or object, or of the mouth by a penis, without the woman’s consent. Around 13% of women may be raped at some time during their lives, according to US data; Australian data are similar.
