Psychological distress in refugee survivors of torture and trauma
Refugees may have experienced the most horrific types of torture and trauma in the countries they are fleeing (Box 1). Victims that have been exposed to severe, repetitive and prolonged trauma suffer severe and complex physical and mental health problems. Clinical and cultural complexities require systemic and specialised psychological, medical and social treatments. This article aims to reflect experiences from clinical practice.
