Bowel cancer screening update

Of the 6.3 million people invited to participate in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) between January 2022 and December 2023, 2.6 million (42%) participated, with 6% returning a positive result, latest data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare show. The 2025 monitoring report on the NBCSP also found screening rates increased among First Nations people (by 3.7% between 2021–22 and 2022–23), with those in remote areas or in low socioeconomic areas more likely to have a positive screen.
